RIM shows off BlackBerry 10 -- What they'll be putting up against iOS 6 and iPhone 5!

The smartphone battle between Apple Inc. and Research in Motion (RIM) is expected to become fiercer, given that both manufacturers are preparing to release their finest products yet.

Apple is expected to launch the flagship model in its iPhone range - popularly called the iPhone 5 - in June. The device, however, will face tough competition from RIM - the makers of the BlackBerry - and its best bet, the BlackBerry London.

The new BlackBerry model is expected to look like a miniature BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, with the same rounded corners and an all-black color scheme. The device will run on RIM's BlackBerry 10 operating system, which will support Android apps and offer features like push notification, voice search, enterprise integration and HTML5 implementation.

On the other hand, the iPhone 5 with its speculated A6 dual-core processor, a 10 megapixel rear-facing camera, a capacitive screen and lightweight polycarbonate body is making quite the stir among Apple enthusiasts.

Here is a comparison of the speculated features of iPhone 5 and BlackBerry London...

Display: The iPhone 5 is rumored to sport 3.7 to 4.0 inch Quantum Dot LED curved glass edge-to-edge display. The BlackBerry London, meanwhile, is expected to have a 4.3-inch touch-screen sporting a Waterloo look.

Processor: The iPhone 5 is predicted to have a 1.2-to-1.5 GHz quad-core A6 chip, with probably 1GB or more of RAM. As per rumors, the BlackBerry London will have a dual core TI OMAP 1.5GHz processor.

Operating System: There has been speculation Apple could launch its next operating system - again, popularly called the iOS 6 - at the Apple Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) in June, followed by the iPhone 5.

On the other hand, the new Blackberry London will run on the manufacturer's own operating system - the BlackBerry 10; the system has been awarded FIPS 140-2 certification by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC).

Memory: The iPhone 5 is expected to come with 16/32/64 GB internal memory configurations, with external microSD card support. According to various rumors, the BlackBerry London will come with 16GB of onboard storage and slot for microSD cards that will allow up to an additional 32GB of storage space.

Camera: The iPhone 5 will probably arrive with a 12 megapixel (or higher, maybe) dual-LED flash camera, with the flash unit to be separated from the camera sensor. Rumors suggest the iPhone 5 will have a 2 megapixel front-facing camera for video chatting. Another rumor indicates the iPhone 5 could even have a 3D camera.

The BlackBerry London is believed to pack an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, geo-tagging and LED flash features. It will also have a secondary front-facing 2 megapixel camera for video calls.

Battery: The iPhone 5 is expected to have a better battery, when compared to the Li-Po 1420 mAh battery in the iPhone 4S. The latter phone can only offer up to 8 hours of talk time on 3G networks and 14 hours on 2G (GSM).

Meanwhile, information about RIM's new smartphone battery has not yet been released.
