Cape Town - Research In Motion (RIM) has moved quickly to offer its BlackBerry subscribers apps as compensation for recent service disruptions.
"The apps will be made available to customers over the coming weeks on BlackBerry App World and will continue to be available until December 31 2011," RIM said.
BlackBerry users around the world experienced disruptions in the internet and e-mail services on the popular smarphone and experts warned that it would hurt the brand.
Frustrated users took to Twitter and other social network platforms to express their anger at the disruptions and RIM co-CEOs apologised for the outage.
"Our priority right up until this moment [has been] making sure the system's up and running. We're going to fully commit to win that trust back," said RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie.
Technical support
The premium apps offered to users are valued at $100 and includes free technical support.
RIM has about 70 million subscribers worldwide and more than half of the company's revenue comes from outside the US.
"We truly appreciate and value our relationship with our customers. We've worked hard to earn their trust over the past 12 years, and we're committed to providing the high standard of reliability they expect, today and in the future," said RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis.
The complete selection of apps will become available to download at BlackBerry App World over a period of four weeks beginning on October 19. The selections over this period will include the following:
- SIMS 3 - Electronic Arts
- Bejeweled - Electronic Arts
- N O V A - Gameloft
- Texas Hold'em Poker 2 - Gameloft
- Bubble Bash 2 - Gameloft
- Photo Editor Ultimate - Ice Cold Apps
- DriveSafe.ly Pro - iSpeech.org
- iSpeech Translator Pro - iSpeech.org
- Drive Safe.ly Enterprise - iSpeech.org
- Nobex Radio Premium - Nobex
- Shazam Encore - Shazam
